Subcontractors and Partners

The Word Applied, Inc. uses a team of specialized, skilled subcontractors that are brought on, and managed, as needed (based upon their availability) on projects. They have a variety of skills including facilitation, organization development, understanding BIPOC specific needs, community engagement, process improvement, Spanish language interpretation and translation, among others.

Below are a few of our subcontractors.

Dr.  Yolanda B Lewis.  Dr. Lewis is an accomplished and highly qualified academic professional with a rich mix of leadership experience.  Dr. Lewis has fourteen years of undergraduate teaching experience in a traditional classroom setting as well as online, ten years of enrollment management and academic advising experience on a variety of college campuses including undergraduate private, state and community college institutions. She is well versed in all aspects of enrollment management, program development, student and personnel management. Dr. Lewis has success working with diverse student populations in the Twin Cities, developing special programs and seeking alternative funding sources, managing academic budgets, and evaluating students, program, and staff effectiveness.  A few of her areas of expertise are:  small business entrepreneurship, community outreach and engagement, diversity and inclusion training and development, program and policy development, grant writing & corporate fundraising, leading organization change and project management.

Dr. Amenah Agunwamba.  Dr. Amenah Agunwamba is a collaborative scientist committed to eliminating health inequities through research, education, and transformative healthcare. She has a demonstrated history of over 10 years conducting multifaceted research in epidemiology and health services research, including expertise in study design, analysis, survey development, clinical and observational research. Dr. Agunwamba has significant expertise in the application of social epidemiology and health communication for health promotion within marginalized communities, with a track record of successfully publishing innovative ideas. She is passionate about health education and mentorship in science, public health, and medicine. She is seen as a leader committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion opportunities.  Dr. Agunwamba has a Doctor of Science, Social Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health, a Master of Public Health, Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, and Bachelor of Arts, Biology from Carlton College.  Dr Agunwamba has research and teaching experience Mayo Clinic, Harvard and the University of Minnesota.  She has several publications and research documents.

Joani Essenburg.  Joani works as an independent consultant bringing a professional and personal approach to listening, creating, and building efficacy in the community.  Over twenty years of experience in community engagement, strategic, program and development planning and problem solving.  Joani builds trust through constructing bridging and bonding capital, resulting in consensus building and brave spaces to be vulnerable.  Joani is committed to working with underserved communities to be better understood and served by nonprofits, churches, government, and small businesses.

Joani has a BA in Education from Covenant College, Georgia, Certificate in Non-Profit Management from University of St. Thomas, MN, and MBA Essentials Certificate from Carlson School of Management, U of MN, MN.

Khanh Nguyen.  Ms. Nguyen’s areas of expertise include cultural competency related to diversity, inclusion, racial equity, immigration, refugee, and Asian American advocacy.  She speaks and trains on cultural competency and anti-racism from a Vietnamese refugee, Asian American, and faith perspective when relevant.  Ms. Nguyen has worked in higher education for 17 years, and with multi-ethnic churches for over 20 years.  She has a passion to see organizations operate by including and empowering voices who have been historically marginalized.

Boo McCaleb.  Boo is a Video Artist and Immersive Designer.  Based in Minneapolis, MN, Boo McCaleb is a creative visionary who blends art, technology, and activism to forge a more equitable future. With a degree in Media and Cultural Studies and a minor in sociology from Macalester College, Boo McCaleb excels in public art consulting and entrepreneurship.  Boo McCaleb is adept at crafting compelling grant proposals and contracts, translating their creative vision into funding opportunities and successful partnerships. They have worked with the MN Department of Education, Saint Paul Arts Collective, forecast public art, and the Link MN to increase fund development, leveraging their expertise in public funding to mobilize resources for projects with social initiatives that create positive change.
